What Is BEMS?
BEMS stands for Building Energy Management System and can be an integral part of controlling and monitoring your buildings.
If you imagine the BEMS as the central brain for your building, collecting information for each different element, for example heating, ventilation or air conditioning, controlled as one central system. The BEMS can take information from your building (inputs) and then direct other parts of your building to act on this (outputs). A simple example of this would be, the BEMS has a sensor within your building that tells it what the temperature is. You tell your BEMS you want to control your building to 21°C + or – 2°C. If that temperature sensor goes above 23 °C, the BEMS will instruct cooling to start to bring the temperature back down. If the temperature goes below 19°C, the BEMS will instruct heating to bring the temperature back up. BEMS can often be seen as extremely complex and not user friendly, which can lead to systems being neglected or not used to their full potential.
